Chat abbreviations

At the beginning when I was new to the internet, I saw people chatting by using some peculiar terms like “LOL”, “BRB”, “ASL” etc. I confused that they may be using some code language. If you’re new to chatting and messaging online, you might be a bit bamboozled by the strange symbols and acronyms that you see cropping up in chat, message boards, emails and Instant Messages.
Fear not - these are simply abbreviations designed to save the typist time and make the best use of their limited screen space. They can also give a greater degree of personal expression to online conversations.

chat jargon
There are certain basic principles and rules observed by this type of chat language. Certain words may be represented by a collection of letters and/or numbers that sound the same when said aloud but which take up less space (e.g. m8 = mate). Smileys, also known as emoticons, can be used to represent a facial expression and add emphasis to a comment (e.g. :-) is a smile).
Other tips to remember when you are typing in capitals. Although you might type a word in capitals for emphasis, to the online world, typing entirely in upper case is construed as SHOUTING and might make people at you.

Smileys
When you are chatting in chat rooms or via Instant Messages, the person or people you are chatting with can’t see the expression on your face or hear your tone of voice. Therefore, they could misinterpret what you are saying. Using smileys (or emoticons) at the end of a sentence can remedy this. A smiley face or a wink can let people know you mean your comment light-heartedly or tongue-in-cheek, and you can even use a smiley to give someone a virtual hug or kiss.
Here is just a small selection of the many possible smileys available. There are lots of variations, and it can be fun to make up your own to trade with people you meet online.

A curriculum vitae, or CV for short, is not the same as a resume. Many people use the two terms interchangeably, but there are some important differences what we should be aware of.
You may want to use a curriculum vitae (c.v.) if you are applying to a position which is academic or research-oriented. Many graduate students use a C.V. if they are applying to advanced programs or to employers such as those just mentioned.

Often referred to as a “vitae.” A vitae is very similar to a resume. It highlights a speaker’s education and key jobs held. A speaker in the academic community usually uses curriculum vitae. A special type of resume traditionally used within the academic community. Earned degrees, teaching and research experience, publications, presentations, and related activities are featured. Unlike a resume, a CV tends to be longer and more informational than promotional in tone.

A Curriculum Vitae, commonly referred to as CV, is a longer (two or more pages), more detailed synopsis. It includes a summary of your educational and academic backgrounds as well as teaching and research experience, publications, presentations, awards, honors, affiliations and other details.
A curriculum vitae, meaning “course of one’s life, is a document that gives much more detail than does a resume about your academic and professional accomplishments.

When seeking a faculty, research, or leadership position at an academic or scientific organization, you need a special resume called curriculum vitae. Candidates who use a CV have an educational background directly related to the positions they seek, education is always featured first. Even after twenty years of research, your degrees and the schools where you earned them will overshadow your experience.

Following are the things to include in a CV

Like a resume, your CV should include your name, contact information, education, skills and experience. In addition to the basics, a CV includes research and teaching experience, publications, grants and fellowships, professional associations and licenses, awards and other information relevant to the position you are applying for. Start by making a list of all your background information, and then organize it into categories. Make sure you include dates on all the publications you include.

Name dropping is more common in CV’s than in resumes. For example, if you performed research under a certain professor, you would probably include her name and title. Science and academia are small worlds, and it is likely that a prospective employer will have heard of a given specialist in her own field. Similarly, if you went on clinical rotations at a given hospital, name it; your future employer might have hospital privileges there.

What is targeted resume?

In most contemporary career consulting the trend is to fashion the document towards what that person can accomplish in a particular job. This is sometimes called a ‘targeted résumé’.

The major difference between a curriculum vitae and a resume is the scope of the content. A curriculum vitae generally has a much wider scope, covering areas of your life and background that a resume won’t.

1. A curriculum vitae is generally a much longer document, commonly ranging anywhere from five to ten or more pages in length. A CV gives the employer a bigger picture of you as a person as well as you as a worker.

2. A resume is a brief, to the point, fact-by-fact analysis of your educational and professional life.

3. The word résumé (often spelled resumé or resume) is used especially in the United States and in English Canada; the Latin term curriculum vitæ (often abbreviated CV) is instead used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, French Canada and some Commonwealth countries, as well as in the academic fields in North America, and in many languages other than English. In some regions (such as Australia and India) CV and résumé are used interchangeably.

This is happened to me this month. Yesterday I received my bill for the month of March’08. The net payable amount is Rs. 6095.00. Yes it is Six thousand and ninety five only. And the most interesting thing in the Bil is the fixed monthly charge, which is Rs. 874.05!! I don’t know whether there is a Plan of Rs. 874.05 in BSNL or not. May be they are launching it ;-) and they experiment it on me. Last month I applied to shift my existing Home 500 plan to home 900UL, so they add a security deposit of Rs. 900 with my bill when I already deposited Rs. 500 on the first bill as that time my plan was Home 500. Now the Usage charges is Rs. 3675.55. Believe me!!! I’m not joking. My father went to the Divisional Engineer of Howrah Mr. C. Niogi for this issue, as I this is not possible to visit him for my office. He told me to my dad that there is a problem with my bill, please write an application mentioning the matter and visit me tomorrow. My dad visited him today, but now they refuse to accept the letter. They told my dad that they could consider thepayment by half of the amount. Means I should have to pay Rs. 3000 for this time. He also told my dad, that the original billing amount is not as much as Rs. 3000, it will be adjusted with my next bill. This is more funny. They will only accept the letter with the paid bill. Now, for their fault I have to pay the amount what I didn’t use. Otherwise they will cut the connection.
The persons sitting their are just abusing their power. For these people, our Government are getting polluted. The general people lost their faith on the government services. How could they keep faith on them? you try to call the customer care, you will hear only the ringing, no answer. The scenario is they are busy in gossiping and chatting , they don’t have time to receive the phones. This is the present status of the number one Broad band provider of India.

My first network setup

Today, is a remarkable day in my career. Today, I made the whole network of my office, yes, I’m, alone.
Two switch (24 port each), Three patch panel, two Eicon card installed server for lease line of NSE and 18 terminals. I have to install the EICON card, then install the NEAT (one of the trading software of NSE) to get the broadcast. Set the server for different broadcast, by implementing the UDPSRVR.ini file, located at c:\winnt\. Using this file we can set which broadcast will receive the terminal, you can set the broadcast for only CM or only FO or both. But better to set single broadcast for an eicon server as there would be a traffic condition for both broadcast running from a single server as a result there would be slow updation in the trading terminal. There was two modem of 128 kbps each, installed by BSNL to get the connection from NSE. Each leased modem have different PW number and ID. The ID is provided by NSE and the PW number is for BSNL. The modem is connected with the server through EICON card and the server throw the broadcast through LAN. The CAT6 cable is connect the server and the switch and the other terminal is connected with the switch. The server and the trading terminal work on class c IP. After made all the connection, I made a ping test to check the connectivity of the terminals with the servers. The connectivity with NSE can be check only in trading day (Monday to Friday). The ping test was successful at the first chance, this credit also goes to the guys, who made the cabling. Waiting for Monday to check the trading successful in my own made network.

Derivatives Trading

What are various types of derivatives?

Futures : A futures contract is an agreement between two parties to buy or sell an asset at a certain time in the future at a certain price. Presently Index futures on S&P CNX NIFTY and CNX IT , Stock futures on certain
specified Securities and Interest Rate Futures are available for trading at NSE. All the futures contracts are settled in cash.
Options :
An Option is a contract which gives the right, but not an obligation, to buy or sell the underlying at a stated date and at a stated price. While a buyer of an option pays the premium and buys the right to exercise his option, the writer of an option is the one who receives the option premium and therefore obliged to sell/buy the asset if the buyer exercises it on him.
Options are of two types - Calls and Puts options :
“Calls” give the buyer the right but not the obligation to buy a given quantity of the underlying asset, at a given price on or before a given future date. “Puts” give the buyer the right, but not the obligation to sell a given quantity of underlying asset at a given price on or before a given future date. Presently Index Options on S&P CNX Nifty and CNX IT and options on certain specified securities are available for trading at NSE. All the options contracts are settled in cash.
Further the Options are classified based on type of exercise. At present the Exercise style can be European or American.
American Option -

- It has lower risk than buying and holding stocks
- It is just as easy to trade the short side as the long side
- Only have to study one index instead of 100’s of stocks
- Settled in cash and therefore all problems related to bad delivery, forged, fake certificates, etc can be avoided.

What is the Expiration Day ?
It is the last day on which the contracts expire. Futures and Options contracts expire on the last Thursday of the expiry month. If the last Thursday is a trading holiday, the contracts expire on the previous trading day. For E.g The January 2004 contracts mature on January 29, 2004.

Any advise or tip that claims that there are huge returns expected, especially for acting quickly, may be risky and may to lead to losing some, most, or all of your money.
Investing in very low priced stocks or what are known as penny stocks does not guarantee high returns.
